01) Celestial Triangle in Western Sky (Jul 30 - Aug 2)
When the sun sets this weekend, be sure to get out to check out the western
sky. Venus (the brightest object in the sky), Saturn and Mars appear to
have converged to form a skinny triangle in the sunset sky. Saturn and Mars
are especially close together, only 2o apart for the next few nights. From
the Northern Hemisphere, the western sky will look like these star maps on
the next four nights:

02) Annual Perseid Meteor Shower (Aug 12-14)
Chicken Little was right... the sky is falling. At least it seems that way
during the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. The most famous meteor shower peaks
this year on Thursday night, August 12 and should be great through the
pre-dawn hours of Friday, August 13. And, of course, there's no moon light
to interfere with m...orning observations. For more details on viewing the
sky show, visit:
www.skyandtelescope.com/community/skyblog/observingblog/99304684.html And
be sure to visit www.spaceweather.com <
http://www.spaceweather.com/>
afterwards to see some great photos of the event.

03) Julian Starfest (Aug 5-8)
Join us for this fun-filled annual star party and astronomy exhibition held
on new moon weekend each August under the dark skies of Julian, California,
amongst the grape vines and apple orchards of the Menghini Winery. Among the
speakers this year, I will be presenting "Your Cosmic Bucket List" on
Saturday, August 7 at 1 p.m. If you want to make sure you don't miss one
celestial thing during your time on Earth, then don't miss this program!

http://www.facebook.com/DennisMammana> If you'd like to watch the upcoming
Perseid Meteor Shower from one of the darkest spots in Southern California,
join my overnight camp-out in the Anza-Borrego Desert (August 12-13). The
past few camp-outs sold out quickly, so now's the time to get in on this
one. It's sure to be popular! All you need to bring is a reclining chair or
sleeping bag and your curiosity-oh, and maybe a pillow. All else is
provided. Advanced reservations are required. For more information and
reservations, call Joe Raffetto toll-free at 866.6.EXPLORE or 760.767.1232,
