Agreed, XP was much better than 98 but I still did more than one reinstall
of 99SE. In fact I kept the installation on a spare plug in drive. DXP2004
has been very good, noticeably more stable although it has its quirks too.
If only one machine were misbehaving I would say find the config files (I
think they live in C:\) and remove them. 99SE will install fresh ones when
it starts up.  It cured mine a few times. Also a corrupted database will
crash 99SE although it will usually load and run for a while. Best plan is
to cut and paste everything in to a new db if you can keep the bad one up
for long enough.
Good Luck

Rob

I don't know that 99SE was ever officially qualified for XP... I've been
using it with XP since it came out and it's been the most stable OS I've run

under.

I do get an error "event" on closing Protel which is announced by the
Windows default sound for "critical stop", (this has been consistent on 4
different XP PC's), but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I never have
spontaneous crashes or freezing like I did under WinME and Win98. WinNT4 and

Win2000 usually behaved themselves ok but I do remember occasional bizarre
behavior.

If this is new, its possible that Windows Update may have installed
something bad. Antivirus software is always a possible source of trouble.
Since you're having trouble on two different systems, is it possible that
your .ddb is corrupt?

Chris
