DavidMills will be at After-Words Books on June23, 2011 at 6 p.m. reading from and signing copies of his book The DreamDetective (Straw Gate Books, $15). There willbe a wine reception following the reading.
TheDream Detective is a small press best seller. It is David Mills’ first poetry collection. The gift of thesepoems is not only their comic timing but also their adventuresome joyousness. They reel you into a world that the authorhas invented from the random associations often conjured in ones dreams. Thepoems regale us with fantastic puns, double-entendres and sexual humor as muchas tackling serious subject matter.
DavidMills has a Masters in creative writing from New York University and is a cum laude gradof Yale University. His poetry has appearedin Ploughshares, Aloud Poets from the Nuyorican Café,Harvard University’s Transition Magazine, and Hanging Loose Press toname a few. His book reviews have beenpublished in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Rolling Stone. He alsolived as writer-in-residence in Langston Hughes’ landmark Harlemhome.
Heis a 2010 Queens Poet Laureate Finalist and has won awards from NYFA, Breadloaf, Henry James, Brio, and PALF. He has traveled to Poland to write poems about theHolocaust on a grant from the Soros Foundation. His poetry has also been recordedon RCA records with jazz artist Steve Coleman.
