I've been holding off for as long as possible making this generally known, because I wasn't sure it would happen. But...in a bizarre and unexpected twist of fate, an original song I wrote is being used in the upcoming George Clooney film "Up in the Air." Life has been weird and surreal for two straight weeks, and looks to get weirder. I mention it on this list only because some of you know I dabble in music, and I even recorded an ambient CD two years ago (not released yet), which I haven't had the money to master. Once I get paid for the song, I'll be able to put THAT CD out, as well as the more song-oriented CD that I am now working on. Part of me has an impulse to say something cliched like "if you're a musician, just put yourself out there, network as much as possible, and try to get heard, and who knows what will happen?" But the bigger part of me knows this is simply a fortuitous thing...I happened to write a song about uncertainty and career
stasis, and Jason Reitman took the cassette I gave him with my song on it and felt it matched the mood of his film. I was damn, damn lucky and part of me still is scratching my head, wondering if I'm dreaming. But anyway...the results of this WILL allow me to do a bit more with ambient music, and I just wanted to share with you folks that it happened. How strange life can be...
