Yes, I have the 8610-2 forms already signed by FSDO. I am thinking of
attending a class to prep for the Oral/Practical, but am studying for the
writtens on my own. I am using The ASA books by Dale Crane as my study
material.

I understand your comments on the responsibility involved. To sign off
someone else's aircraft must take a bit of grit. Of course, as
owner/operator of my own aircraft, the FAA views me just as responsible for
the maintenance and work done on it as it does the A&P who performed the
work and signed it off. I have no allusions of making my living as an A&P,
at least not until I retire. It would be a fun way to fill in the meager
retirement budget!!
