Don't miss your chance to meet Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
President Shirley Ann Jackson, who TIME Magazine (2005) described as
"perhaps the ultimate role model for women in science", during a special
lecture entitled Converging Opportunities: The "Quiet Crisis" and Energy
Security.
Explore what Dr. Jackson has dubbed America's "quiet crisis,"-a lack of
young people preparing to replace the record number of scientists and
engineers on the verge of retiring. Dr. Jackson urges a national focus
on energy research to excite interest in science and engineering
careers, noting that "energy security is the space race of this
millennium."
Dr. Jackson holds 40 honorary doctoral degrees and is a member of the
National Governors Association's Innovation America Task Force, whose
vice chairman is Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. She was a keynote
speaker with former Vice President Al Gore at the recent Science +
Society Conference in Boston, MA.
