ok probably not, it's most likely a knock-on effect of whatever i'm
doing that batik doesn't like. Fact is, when i removed the newline
generation on the server side the stack overflow went away.

getPrimitiveBounds() fails because the shape is null. I've noticed this
before, I am now digging to see exactly where it tries to associate a
shape to the graphicsnode.
