With regard to the gcc problem, here is an update from the Ubuntu crowd.

So it would appear that
gcc-4.6 - 4.6.2-6ubuntu1
would contain a fix for the bug.  I have to admit that so far I am quite  
impressed how serious the report has been taken and how fast it has been  
dealt with once in the upstream queues. It is probably worth waiting to see  
how fast this will percolate into a recompilation of the possibly affected  
Ubuntu packages (probably the majority...) in Precise as well as Oneiric.
