if somebody sends me a patch for GUB, I can apply that pretty much  
instantly.  Then it can either wait until the next regular release, or I  
could upload a special test binary.  Alternately, somebody could make a  
patch, build test binaries themselves, ask for user input themselves, and  
only send me the patch once it's tested.
