He is absolutely correct, however I wouldn't regard it as a "problem", but
more of a technological
hurdle that has taken a lot of R&D and technology to overcome.

LEDs are inherently unstable devices, especially with the high powered ones
used as the LCD backlights. Basically the hotter they are, the less
efficient they become in terms of light output, so the more power needed to
maintain the brightness which in turn would lead to higher temperatures....
So it requires a very complex temperature and optical feedback system in
order to maintain the luminance and color balance to the kind of accuracy
demanded for color critical applications.
