palm t3 serial port

I have an application which uses the palm serial port to talk to an embedded processor. That has been working very well for years up until the T3 came out.

I heard about the T3 bug and fixed the problem by simply bridging RTS/CTS and all was well again.

But I have recently gotten back a T3 on which the serial port has simply and completely stopped working. Now even hot synch can only be done via usb. I am assuming the serial port has somehow become damaged.

Does anyone know if it is possible that bridging RTS/CTS in this way could possibly damage the serial port itself? Has anyone else noted a similar problem?

Thanks much in advance.
