No, a RTS/CTS bridge is completely compliant with the port signals. As a
matter of fact, it is even less a 'risk' than using the 'real' RTS from
the remote device. At least as far as the electronics go.

The RS232 level converter in those Palms are quite robust against ESD,
shorts, etc, it's not that easy to blow them.

I still think SerialFix is the better way to go. Some devices need real
hardware handshake.
