The Rambam (Hilchos Teshuvah, 3:7) lists five types of people that
are classified as a Min and none of them sound like a Muslim. They
are: 1) an aetheist, 2) a polytheist, 3) one who subscribes
corporeality to G-d, 4) one who believes that the basic matter of the
universe always existed and G-d only formed it into its present form,
5) one who prays to an intermediary. Therefore, I don't think we can
say that - according to the Rambam - the Koran is Sifrei Minim.
The Rambam defines someone who contradicts the prophecy of Moshe
Rabeinu as an Apikores (see the next Halachah in the Rambam) not as a Min.<<
I. Weitzman asks:
Re your distinction between minim and apikorsim. Is it then OK to
read/study sifrei Apikorsus?
Isaiah B. asks:
It is known that the Ran on Sanhedrin was not the Ran we have on
Shas. His explanation why it is AZ shows that he did not understand
their religion. They do not bow to his picture. He says "ein kovod
lemeisim-hence it is AZ" This is just wrong. The ztitz eliezer
paskens like that Ran but R. O. Yosef who knew them better agrees
that it is not AZ.
I do not think that they reject Moshe rabenu. What they believe is
that Muhamed was the seal of the prophets.
The Kollel replies:
Dear I. Weitzman,
It is certainly forbidden to read/study Sifrei Apikorsus. The issue
is not the permissibility of studying these texts but how to dispose
of them. There is a special Din by any Sefer written by a Min that it
should be burned -- even a Sefer Torah and its Azkaros (Gitin 45b). A
Sefer Torah written by an Apikorus does not have this Din.
Apologies for the delay in responding.
