Binding a USB driver to an unknown device
by James Pattinson

Hi

I am trying to get a 3G communications card to work with OS X. It is
usable on Linux by binding the generic usbserial module to the card by
specifying the vendor ID and product ID on the command line like this:

modprobe usbserial vendor=0xaf0 product=0x5000

I'd like to know how I can do the same thing on Darwin/OS X. I've had a
look round /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext but haven't been
able to work out if this is going to be possible.

Is there a fairly generic USB serial driver on Darwin?

Thanks in advance,

James
