thanks for the suggestion john.  openURL seems to only show the apps in the finder but not actually launch them.  AllowFileAccessOutOfWidget is set to true in my info.plist.  also, openURL doesn't seem to be able to navigate to an app contained in the widget's package.  have you gotten this to work in the past?  thanks.
