[debian-non-standard] Debian on FSG-3: ssh connection refused

Hello,
Recently I laid hands on a Freecom FSG-3 (no WLAN, 400 MB harddisk). I
followed the instructions in
http://wpkg.org/Running_Debian_on_Freecom_FSG-3and almost everything
seems to be OK: I can ping the machine on
192.168.111.188, but when I try to connect as root through ssh ('ssh -l root
192.168.111.188' or 'ssh root@192.168.111.188')  I get "ssh: connect to host
192.168.111.188 port 22: connection refused". Is there a different port
number required or something else I should do different?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hajo
