You might try "fink reinstall xinitrc", then quit X11, restart it, and
try startkde again.

Fink's xinitrc package provides hooks to dbus; one issue with it is that
it creates a /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinitrc, which tends to get overwritten by
X11 updates.

For your own startup purposes, you'll want to copy that file over to be
your ~/.xinitrc, and then you can modify that to start KDE.
Unfortunately, the current setup of our xinitrc, which was originally
added before 10.5 came out, subverts the normal startup behavior for X11
on 10.5 and 10.6; but hopefully we'll come up with an update soon that
does not.
