[Hebrew Computing] Yiddish fonts for Word
by David tal

Dear Chevre,

I do quite a lot of typing in Yiddish.

I am now switching over from Dagesh to Word, and I am looking for
a font, which I can easily convert to add the necessary glyphs which
Yiddish requires. (about 10 additional glyphs)

My problem is that I am using Font Editor, and I do not know how
to convert  glyphs in the original Word fonts from English (l-to-r)
to Yiddish (r-to-l). I do not need any Latin characters.  I type
exclusively in Yiddish.

Most of the upper case letters in Word Hebrew fonts are Latin upper
case.  I do not need them.  But when I put in a Hebrew glyph into
one of them, the w.p. assumes they are Latin, and either shifts to
a different font, or changes the direction, so I cannot proceed.

I suspect that telling the Font Editor that a new glyph is r-to-l, and
also part of the Yiddish language is easy, but I do not know what the
variable that makes that change known to Word. I need to change
something in the font description to fix this problem.

Can anybody give me a hint?

Thanks

David Tal
