I've only done this with my z/OS lpars, but in the HMC profile you can have reserve CPs defined to the lpar.  The number of reserve CPs can be more then the number of physical CPs.  If you dynamically add move physical CPs to your CEC you can then bring online more logical CPs to one or more lpars.  As far as I know you can't have more "active" logical CPs then there are physical CPs.

My z/VM lpars are only using IFLs so I have all of the IFLs defined to each lpar.

Subject: Adding LCPUS to a LPAR dynamically

Hi

I think I know the answer to this but wanted to confirm.

If I need to add Logical CPUS to an LPAR does this take an IPL of the LPAR to get them in ?

Also if I wanted to add more Logical CPUS to the LPAR than there are physical ones defined can I do this. This would be to avoid the need to IPL if we added more Physical CPUS in the future ?

Thank You,
