TOP STORY - It was a big day for second quarter reporting. On the programming side,
Playboy Enterprises reported a net loss of $3.3 million for the second quarter. As part
of the company's previously announced cost reduction plan, second quarter results
included a net restructuring charge of $1.9 million, the company said. More 2Q results

Cablevision added 35,328 basic video customers during the second quarter (for a
total of 3.1 million) 35,328 digital subscribers (2.27 million), 84,819 data subs (1.891
million) and 122,234 voice customers (nearly 1 million). Cablevision also said an
ongoing stock options review and an expected restatement of past financial results
compelled the company not to release full second quarter financial information. It
added financial statements for reporting periods going back to 1997 "should not be
relied upon" --- Charter said it lost 37,800 basic video customers during the second
quarter, for a total of 5.876 million, while it gained 22,600 digital video subscribers,
for 2.889 million. Data subscribers jumped to 2.375 million while phone customers
climbed to 257,000, Charter said --- DirecTV netted 125,000 customers during the
second quarter, for a total of 15.51 million.
