We need your help
Bev Conover

Washington, the corporations, the banksters and their cohorts would be
gleeful if Intrepid Report would go away -- another thorn out of their sides.
For nearly 14 years, though, we've hung on, first as Online Journal and now
Intrepid Report, thanks to the support of our readers. But as the economy
tanked, so did donations and now we're running on fumes. To put it bluntly,
we need your help.

We ask those of you who have a spare $5, $10, $20 to please make a donation
today. Every dollar helps us pay expenses. You can make a one-time donation
or a monthly subscription donation, via credit card, by going to
<http://www.intrepidreport.com/donate-2> or if you prefer to send a check,
email editor@intr... <mailto:editor@intr...> for a
mailing address.

There is a war on journalists who aren't handmaidens of Washington and don't
toe the corporate line. We are spied upon, put on government lists, detained
and hassled at airports, even raided and hit with spurious indictments all
because as George Orwell said, “During times of universal deceit, telling the
truth becomes a revolutionary act.” Yet, a democracy or democratic republic
cannot exist without an informed citizenry. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin,
“"We must hang together...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately."

The beginning is near
Jerry Mazza

It's not hard to feel that some new beginning is near in Union Square Park on
May 1, Occupy May Day, with thousands of Occupy Wall Streeters, union workers
and leaders, immigrant workers groups, the unemployed, and senior citizens
squeezed into the park, several waving “The Beginning Is Near” signs.

The latest victim of anti-gay rhetoric
Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.

I'd like all of you self-righteous anti-gay crusaders to look into the eyes
of fourteen year-old Kenneth Weishuhn, Jr.:

Atomic rate rape and the new China syndrome
Harvey Wasserman

Japan's one remaining operating reactor (of 54) went dark Saturday. Japan is
nuke-free for the first time in a half-century.

Disinformation on every front
Paul Craig Roberts

Some readers have come to the erroneous conclusion that the Matrix consists
of Republican Party disinformation as if there is no disinformation from the
left. Others think that propaganda is the business of Obama and the
Democrats. In fact, propaganda from the right, the left and the middle are
all part of the disinformation fed to Americans.

Illegal settlements bonanza: Israel plots an endgame
Ramzy Baroud

Israel's colonization policies are entering an alarming new phase, comparable
in historic magnitude to the original plans to colonize Gaza, the West Bank
and East Jerusalem following the war of 1967.

Who's behind the Shia massacre in Pakistan?
Dr. Ismail Salami

Death is whimsical these days, manifesting itself in shapes most repellent to
man: men posing with the mangled parts of dead bodies; men urinating on dead
bodies; men cutting out the eyes of their brothers and killing them in the
name of religion.

The obscenity of humanitarian warfare
Peter Chamberlin

America and NATO have done a very bad thing, a perplexing thing-they have
blurred the lines between war and peace, by turning “humanitarian
intervention” into a tool of aggression. It is now logical to view all
American humanitarian aid, in all of its forms, as the first stage of
aggression, America's foot in the door to meddle in the affairs of national
government. On a sliding scale, with national subversion (under the cover of
humanitarian intervention) on one end, and full-scale superpower “blitzkrieg”
on the other, we can see the outlines of the modern distortion of
humanitarian aid into a tool of war-making in a simple line, depicting levels
of American military aggression.

Lebanese president orders airfield to be readied for NATO and UN
Wayne Madsen

(WMR <http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/>)-WMR's Lebanese sources report that
Lebanon's president, Michel Sleiman, has instructed Public Works and
Transportation Minister Ghazi al-Aridi to ready the northern Qleiat airport
for possible use by NATO and UN forces for operations inside Syria. Qleiat is
located near the Lebanese border with Syria.

Freedom Rider: Journalists in bed with the president
Margaret Kimberley

The president of the United States gets away with murder, literally, in large
part because journalists don't do their job of reporting the news. Long gone
are the days of investigative journalism and what should be an adversarial or
at the very least distant relationship between reporters and presidential
administrations.

Michael Lewis advises Occupy to boycott the Big Greeders
Missy Comley Beattie

The concept is somewhat egotistical. But if you believe that what you have to
offer is valuable, the published self-interview is an attention getter.

The African Union: A tool of Western rule
Thomas C. Mountain

The African Union (AU) has mutated into a particularly corrupt and brutal
enforcer of Western rule in Africa. When it comes to the interests of Pax
Americana, you must start with the crimes committed in the AU's “War on
Terror” in Somalia, a.k.a., the War on the Somali people.

From the Kent State killings to Occupy Cleveland, this is the face of the new
COINTELPRO
Bob Fitrakis

Recent events in northern Ohio underscore the new COINTELPRO assault on
activism. On Tuesday, May 1, federal authorities arrested five “anarchists”
charging them with conspiracy in trying to bomb property used in interstate
commerce, according to the Associated Press (AP). The target of this alleged
plot was a bridge running through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, 15 miles
south of downtown Cleveland.

The nuclear industry has melted in Japan and France
Harvey Wasserman

There are zero commercial reactors operating in Japan today. On March 10,
2011, there were 54 licensed to operate, well over 10% percent of the global
fleet.

Obama administration main obstacle to Middle East peace
Linda S. Heard

Any peace process there ever was is virtually dead. Arabs blame the hawkish
right-wing Benjamin Netanyahu-led government for the impasse, as do prominent
former heads of Israeli intelligence services; Netanyahu blames Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas for refusing to return to the table until Israel
quits expanding Jewish colonies. There's plenty of blame to go around but, if
the truth be told, the White House should bear more guilt than the
protagonists for the absence of progress. If the US were the 'honest broker'
it has on occasion pretended to be, there would have been a state called
Palestine decades ago.

Musings on Ayn Rand, Hitler and the idea that 'might makes right'
Carla Binion

I just read an article on Ayn Rand's influence on many in the Republican
Party, and it brought the following to mind. I know most people have
knee-jerk aversion to the mere mention of Hitler and comparing him with
others, but sometimes it helps to take notice when accurate comparisons
exist. Like Rand and her ideological heirs, Hitler also despised the weak and
any effort to help the unfortunate. Among those he considered unworthy of
life because he thought them “weak” were hospital patients, orphans,
pacifists, homosexuals, anyone “asocial” and any groups that might uplift the
poor such as labor unions. He believed might makes right and justified his
views using Darwinian and Machiavellian terms.

What about the Voters' Rights Amendment?
Charles Foerster

American voters are adrift on the sinking U.S. ship of state in a political
sea awash with thousands of activist organizations reflecting every hue of
the political spectrum. Responding to the voter's SOS, a nonpartisan lifeboat
has been floating around the Internet and social media for the past couple of
months quickly attracting a broad range of bipartisan support.

Dr. Judy Wood and the future of the earth: Part I
Eric Larsen

Everyone knows what's wrong with the poor remnant of news and analysis that
the mainstream media still manages to provide-that it's untrue, servile to
its corporate masters, and intended to deceive rather than reveal.

Voices from the streets: May Day in New York City
Howard Lisnoff

May 1 began with rain and heavy clouds in the Berkshire Mountains in Western
Massachusetts. Since it has been an unusually dry and cool spring in New
England, I worried that the May Day demonstration planned by Occupy Wall
Street would not draw the crowds so essential to keep the momentum of the
movement going.

Is it time for the girl in India?: Satya Mev Jayate
Rakhee Ghelani

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how India had turned me into a feminist
<http://www.intrepidreport.com/archives/5490> after seeing and learning about
the treatment of women here. Many people have spoken to me about this post
since in person, via Twitter and on Facebook. One comment that came up a few
times was that my tone was one of hopelessness. This wasn't the intention,
but I certainly did feel like no matter how much the statistics and facts
clearly show that women are in danger in India, so little seemed to be done
about it. Then Sunday happened.

Zionism is dead and kicking
Gilad Atzmon

In a recent Haaretz article
<http://www.haaretz.com/weekend/week-s-end/after-115-years-it-s-time-for-zioni
sm-to-retire-1.426843>, leading Israeli columnist Gideon Levy affirms that
Zionism is pretty irrelevant as far as Israelis are concerned. Similar to the
line I myself develop in The Wandering Who, Levy contends that Israelis do
not understand what Zionism stands for. For them it is an archaic notion.

The War Against the World
Jerry Mazza

In a war that is many wars conducted and staged from at least a thousand
bases around the world by some 250,000 military personnel, burning up more
fuel than any single source on the planet, what chance does the national debt
have of declining, even through the awful austerity programs aimed at
slashing entitlement programs of all kinds by the profiteers of this
egregious excess continue to starve the consumer economy of capital with
endless debt, leaving the specter of declining jobs and an evaporating
currency for our so-called capitalist system to live on?

On the insanity of 'an eye for an eye' and those who glorify it
Larry Pinkney

Recently, Mr. 'Hope And Change' Barack Obama (also known as the
predator-drone-missile president), officially launched his corporate
reelection campaign by shamelessly touting his role in the extra-judicial,
U.S. government's official version, of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden.

Virginia Air National Guard pilots muzzled for getting too close to the
military's deepest secrets
Wayne Madsen

(WMR <http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/>)-Virginia Air National Guard F-22
Raptor pilots Major Jeremy Gordon and Captain Joshua Wilson are facing the
loss of their wings and punitive administrative reprisals for appearing on
CBS 60 Minutes to discuss pilot safety issues with regard to the F-22's
oxygen system. The pilots revealed problems with pilot sickness, including
hypoxia, or the loss of oxygen to the brain, as a result of “unknown”
problems with the F-22's oxygen system.

9/11 defendants' trial, another piece of US theater
Linda S. Heard

The second attempt by US authorities to try one of several alleged
masterminds of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and his four co-accused is a
farce reminiscent of the trial of Saddam Hussein that had a preordained
outcome.

Struggle over Iran: Tumultuous Israeli politics will not usher peace
Ramzy Baroud

Israel is currently experiencing the kind of turmoil that may or may not
affect its political hierarchy following the next general election. However,
there is little reason to believe that any major transformations in the
Israeli political landscape could be of benefit to Palestinians.
