Absurdity rules the world
Siv O'Neall
The absurdity of the world today is so blinding that we can barely see
through the fog to discern what went so wrong.

The real Libor scandal
Paul Craig Roberts and Nomi Prins
According to news reports, UK banks fixed the London interbank borrowing rate
(Libor) with the complicity of the Bank of England (UK central bank) at a low
rate in order to obtain a cheap borrowing cost. The way this scandal is
playing out is that the banks benefitted from borrowing at these low rates.
Whereas this is true, it also strikes us as simplistic and as a diversion
from the deeper, darker scandal.

Dream encounters
Missy Comley Beattie
Saturday morning, July7th, I awakened at 4:30. I should have gotten up, then,
for my jog, run, sprint, because it was so muggy by the time I did, around
7:00. I went back to sleep, though, and dreamed I was comforting Hillary
Clinton after she'd discovered, yet, another sexual affair. Bill's, of
course, and it was ongoing.

The fruit vendor of the real
Jerry Mazza
He stood across the street from Saint John the Divine's Cathedral on
Amsterdam Avenue at West 112th, not far from Columbia University. I was
returning from lunch, two blocks away, with the June heat beating my head
like a drum. He was standing like so many others who form a fleet of fruit
and vegetable vendors spread across the city with their aluminum faced
wagons, with an umbrella to shade the produce, small wheels so that an SUV
could pull the cart to and from locations that sell their produce at prices
lower by far than the supermarkets and tony stores nearby. They have produced
a pushcart culture that I hadn't seen since I was a boy in the 1940s. It
signifies to me how desperate people have become for work.

The RAP vote: Repudiation of American Politics
Ben Tanosborn
On Wednesday, July 4, Ricky My-T-Mouth Johnson, an obscure ghost lyricist
in the rap-music world, and also an acquaintance from the early Occupy days,
showed up at the porch of my historical townhouse at Fort Vancouver National
Historic Site. He had brought his family from Portland (Oregon) to see our
famed fireworks' display, he told me and, knowing that I live here, maybe
take time to rap a little about the upcoming presidential election.

News digested
Linh Dinh
7/1/12-Citing Iran's nuclear ambition, America and her hushed puppies impose
oil embargo on Islamic republic. Going on four years now, the global economic
depression has kept oil price in check, so this embargo is meant to stop it
from dropping further, if not bump it up, benefitting Western oil companies.
An economic sanction steers customers from an enemy to you. Though always
slobbered in morality, it's basically a trade tactic. The military cost of
harassing Iran and enforcing embargo also enriches Western weapon
manufacturers.

War on all fronts
Paul Craig Roberts
The Russian government has finally caught on that its political opposition is
being financed by the US taxpayer-funded National Endowment for Democracy and
other CIA/State Department fronts in an attempt to subvert the Russian
government and install an American puppet state in the geographically largest
country on earth, the one country with a nuclear arsenal sufficient to deter
Washington's aggression.

The selling of the presidency: Politics in the age of television
John W. Whitehead
This statement by General Haynesworth, the media mogul in the classic film A
Face in the Crowd (1957), more than aptly sums up contemporary politics.
Keeping with the spirit of his 2008 Hope and Change campaign slogans,
Barack Obama has adopted Forward as his 2012 campaign slogan, while Mitt
Romney is standing behind Believe in America.

Superspy confesses to MI6 black ops in Iran
Dr. Ismail Salami
Preposterously bizarre as it is, the head of MI6 foreign intelligence agency
John Sawers made a rare appearance before Britain's civil servants in London
on Friday and warned that the Iranians are determinedly going down a path to
master all aspects of nuclear weapons; all the technologies they need, and
that they will by 2014 acquire a nuclear bomb.

Indiana law requires ballots to be traceable to individual voters
Bev Harris

Too much or not enough? That is the question
Jerry Mazza
Most recently, we've been formulized as a people made up of the 1% wealthy
versus the 99% of the struggling middle/working classes and poor, indicating
the tiniest portion of us have too much all of the wealth and the largest
number of us have not enough, in millions of cases barely enough to live.

Subterfuge-the 'American Way'
Larry Pinkney
Subterfuge, which is the strategy of deception and deceit, is now the very
basis of and for the policies and practices of the corporate-owned U.S. crime

that this government and its servile puppet-the corporate-stream 'news' media
disseminates-can or should be wholly believed.
