I just upgraded without removing the Leopard OpenAFS and it "just
worked", I had to modify /etc/authorization again to get tokens at
login though. I have since upgraded my afs version to the Snow Leopard
package but I did it to test the localisation package I maintain
which I had to change because of the demise of the MIT Kerberso Extras
package.
