The role of Scribus will develop over time as the publishing space changes and user requests come in. For now the primary focus is printed media with top notch PDF output as a primary goal.

The idea of HTML/CSS export is an old one and has been in our bug tracker forever. The fact that ebooks may be using a similar format is a nice side effect.

I see no reason that a best effort export option like Ale is working on cannot be fully supported within Scribus.

There's no point in arguing if Scribus should do it - it will do it to a certain level within a few weeks or months. Ale's plugin already works at a basic level and he has a good design document to work from.

Don't use the export option if you don't want to.
