If it is, it may be only under boel though.  On Mandriva 2008.1

1.  unpack the boel_initrd.img.gz to gain access to the busybox binary
(v1.9.1)
2.  ./busybox ash
    nettee -next . | tar -tf -
3.  On another node:
    (cd /tmp; tar -cf - . ) | nettee -root -next testnode -w -v 31

and it works properly.   Both the pipe and redirect functions for this
busybox with nettee when running under Mandriva 2008.1 were tested
and they both worked, yet these same functions do not work under boel
4.1.6 with the same nettee and busybox binaries.
