This is absolutely the way to go and it has nothing to do with Ubuntu or
Linux.  I was about to respond with the same comment, but you beat me,
Mark.

As the subject is "cron job", would this be a hijack?  Do you edit cron
directly with crontab -e or a file; crontab < crontab.txt?  I prefer the
file approach, when I can, as it allows me to set up cron the same way
on multiple machines.  And, I have lost cron entries with system
crashes.
