That is actually what I'm using on my own Desktop (which is Debian and
not Ubuntu atm.)  Alas, it's a race to what gets deprecated first, Gnome
Classic or compiz.  I gather from other developer mailing list
discussion that no one is maintaining compiz as a stand-alone window
manager outside of Unity anymore. But it works for now, and there are
promising desktop projects elsewhere, such as Cinnamon.
